Longing … Like For Chocolate
If we had female authors in the Bible I think we’d have a lot more psalms about chocolate.
My spirit longs for God. I love that old worship song As the Deer. You know the one:
As the deer panteth for the water
So my south longeth after thee
This morning, I’m thinking of it in different terms.
Just as my heart longs for family and is touched by friends, so my spirit longs for God.
Even then, it’s not quite right.
When I polish off a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates—yes, it has happened—my mouth is satisfied for the moment. But my heart cries out for God in ways I can’t silence or satiate. This longing is deeper. Looooonger. And I love it.
May my heart never be satisfied. Even as I long for Him, I want this longing to grow. To overwhelm my thoughts and actions. That every activity throughout my day would be done as worship unto Him.
