neighborhoodI came across this post about Mr. Rogers in my Facebook feed this morning (from Lemon Lime Adventures), and I gotta say, it left me feeling so happy! I have no idea if it’s accurate or not, but I’d encourage you to check it out if you have a few minutes, especially if you, like me, grew up watching this kind face on television. Alright, you back?

So as I got ready for the day I kept thinking about Mr. Rogers and of course, his theme song. And most of the words escaped me as a kid:

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?

It’s a neighborly day in this beautywood,
A neighborly day for a beauty,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?

I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So let’s make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we’re together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won’t you be my neighbor?

Won’t you please,
Won’t you please,
Please won’t you be my neighbor?

How perfect a sentiment for this beautiful Monday morning. Won’t I please be a neighbor.

To love my neighbor as myself. To be a neighbor to those I come in contact with. A friendly face. Sharing a kind word. Offering mercy and compassion. To help those who are hurting and not to turn a blind eye to those in need.

If you’re reading this blog post, I’m praying for you. My online neighbor. Drop me a line if you’d like prayer for something specific, otherwise, I’m simply asking God to minister to you out of the goodness of His love and affection. To fill you with every good thing. To heal broken places in your heart, meet you where you are, protect you, and shelter you with His presence. That you would know Him, hear Him and love Him in increasing measure.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine?
