Hey Y’all! I’m starting a new thing for the month of October!
My amazing Simplified Planner from Emily Ley has this great section for “weekly prep” on Sundays. A chance to get organized for the week ahead and recharge a bit. And I love it. So much so that I’d like to try a BONUS Sunday Bulletin post every week with seven ways to help you prep for the week ahead, or just to add a bit more enjoyment to your day.
So here it goes:: This week’s theme is GRACE.
My sister told me about a super helpful trick for getting up in the morning for quiet times with the Lord. She learned it from The Set Apart Woman by Leslie Ludy, and this tip works! Memorize a verse that will encourage you to get up, one that will remind you of God’s goodness and His presence. Got it? Good! Now when your alarm clock goes off, repeat that verse to yourself out loud. This simple act wakes me up enough to remember why I set my alarm. Right now I’m using part of a verse from Mark 10, when Jesus heals Blind Bartimaeus. Jesus tells His disciples to call Bartimaeus to them and they say these simple words:
“Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” (Mark 10:49b)
My Personal High and Low::
- High: Jared and I started building our kitchen table this week, using this design. It’s coming … slowly … but beautifully.
- Low: Dillon is still fighting a cold. His little cough is so sad!
How was your week? I’d love to hear about it! Comment below or join the conversation on Facebook.
Grace: unmerited favor. To receive good that is undeserved. As we grow, many of us have developed grace toward others. Grace for their mistakes and learning curves. Grace for missed meetings, forgotten birthdays and misunderstandings. We speak grace to our friends as they share mom-life struggles, grace to our kids for broken dishes and grace to our men for overlooked items on the grocery list.
As we prepare for the week ahead this is my encouragement: You, too, can receive grace. Don’t disqualify yourself from receiving grace from Jesus or from yourself. Do your best and welcome God’s grace for the rest.
I feel so strongly about this that I’ve created a free phone wallpaper image for download for all my website subscribers.

Date Night Idea::
Sneak a Treat.
Keeping with this theme of grace, sometimes it gets to the end of a busy day or week and mustering up the energy for a date seems impossible. This date night idea is for precisely those moments. Grab a pint of ice cream or your favorite splurge treat and spend 20 minutes basking in the joy of a sugar rush together. No to-do lists, no planning. Just sit and BE together.
Not only is this blog post from Faint Not Mom full of grace, it’s HILARIOUS. Check out this post from a new online friend, Joanna Appel. Mom Fails: Textured Play
Book of the Month::
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. My home is almost entirely tidied according to the KonMari method and I legitimately feel more relaxed because of it! Disclaimer: it’s not a Christian book, so take the good and discard the rest. I’ll share more about the book and our adventures later this month, but here’s the link to Amazon if you want to check it out and video blurb from The Today Show. (Special shout out to my friend Claire for sharing this life-changing magic with me!) 😉
That’s this week’s bulletin. What does the week ahead have in store for you? Anything you’d like to see in the next bulletin?
