God, how can I breathe in more of your life-giving breath today?
Here's the episode transcript
Hey friends, are you ready to wonder at God with me? I hope so because that's what we're doing here on the podcast today. We're going through this series of cultivating wonder and taking a few minutes to slow down and look again at some of the beautiful revelation that is on display in the world and in the Bible, but sometimes we just can get too familiar with, and so we overlook it.
Today, we're looking at breath And more specifically, God's breath.
There's probably one of two passages of scripture that immediately jumped to mind for some of us. The first one is talking about scripture being God breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16, it says that
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16)
The other verse that comes to mind for a lot of us is back in Genesis and our creation story.
Genesis 2:7 it says,
“then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” (Genesis 2:7)
And then later. God puts the man to sleep and takes a rib out of his rib cage and crafts from the life breathed man, life breathed woman.
Even in the Genesis story itself, God is speaking the earth into existence. Every aspect of our physical, natural world is breathed by God. Breath partnered with sound is speech. And God spoke our world into creation.
There's such incredible power in God's breath. Literally the breath of life breathed us to life and His inspired authoritative word is breathed out for our good.
And so today. We're just wondering at him. I invite you to slow down to marvel at the reality of God's breath, that we're here because his breath is in our lungs, that our world is here because his power carried on his breath, spoke it into being, that we have his God breathed word.
We live by God's exhale, and we get to marvel at that today.
We also get to ask God more about it. So here's a question I encourage you to ask him:
God, how can I breathe in more of your life-giving breath today?
Have a good talk.
