I’m A Thermostat Not A Thermometer

2 Minutes Read

Fall finally found us here in north Texas! With a stormy, cozy weekend behind us and an expected high of 63 degrees today—I’m loving this weather! Even took the chance to try out a new fairly healthy Pinterest recipe yesterday Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate. After adding a ton of sugar and some extra chocolate syrup, it tasted amazing! 🙂

2014-10-13 10.05.51-1The fluctuating weather brought about an extra change to our home environment. Moving thermostat settings. The cold Saturday night prompted us to turn on the heater overnight, and then the warmer Sunday morning had us flipping back to AC.

I know, pointless information right? Well, it got me thinking … how intentional am I at setting the other thermostats in my home? You know, the emotional thermostat. Relational thermostat. Spiritual thermostat.

Or am I more reactionary, taking a read on the room and adjusting to the environment instead of being a proactive temperature setter?

This isn’t one of those “5 Steps on how to” posts, although I’m sure I could whip something up. No, I’m still marinating on this one and I think I’ll come back to it in future posts. For now, I’m taking Step #1: admitting I have a problem. I’m a thermostat and sometimes I relegate myself to acting like a thermometer. To stating what is rather than making adjustments for myself and my family. You know what I call a home thermostat that just tells you what the temp is, but does nothing to fix it? Broken.

I’m taking a stand these next few Mondays to fix mine and really make a difference in my home environment.

What do you do to set a healthy “temperature” in your home?
