Question

God, what does it look like for me to walk in your steadfast love as I navigate these circumstances?

Here's the episode transcript

Hey friends, are you struggling figuring out which way to go? Now, if you're listening to this podcast while driving, that might be figuring out your directions, but I mean, in a broader and probably deeper sense:

Are you struggling making a decision?

Or knowing which door is going to open before you?

Are you trying to make difficult choices, or discern between competing opportunities?

Well, in seasons like that, it's especially helpful to look toward God's steadfast love.

I have found that when we're trying to make difficult decisions and we don't know which way to go, those circumstances can get disproportionately large in our view.

We can focus all of our time on seeking counsel or gathering information or weighing our options. We can even let those circumstances overwhelm our time with the Lord.

Now, of course, please research, prepare, consider, weigh options, seek good godly counsel, and seek the Lord. He invites us to bring all of our circumstances to Him. And He has insight and wisdom to share with you about the decisions that you're needing to make.

And also, I encourage you not to let those circumstances and the direction that you're seeking overtake your ability to seek God for Him. To press in to connect with God and to spend time with Him outside of and apart from the circumstances that you're trying to decide about.

In Psalm 26, David is asking God to vindicate him. He's asking him to prove him and to try him, to test his heart and his mind. And scripture doesn't tell us exactly what circumstances David is going through here. but he tells the Lord that he doesn't sit with men of falsehood, or he doesn't consort with hypocrites.

He doesn't go into the assembly of the evildoers, and he won't sit with the wicked, that he Proclaims with thanksgiving God's mighty deeds. It says,

“for your steadfast love is before my eyes and I walk in your faithfulness.” (Psalm 26:3b)

Our topic of focus is simple: as you navigate these circumstances and you need to know which way to go—walk in the faithfulness of the Lord.

Set his steadfast love before your eyes.

Practically, this could look like a lot of things, maybe it's having times of prayer and talking with God about direction, about instruction that you need and setting aside times where you release that need to him. Trusting that you know he knows you need it, and you explore other things.

Maybe as you're seeking direction, it's having time set aside to give thanks for what he has already done, to reflect on how he's shown his steadfast love in times past.

As you're seeking God on which way to go, on the information and direction and instruction you need to make these key choices, know that no matter what circumstances come your way—you can walk in the steadfast love of the Lord.

You can lift your eyes up to see how he is steadfast in his care for you.

How he is loyal in his love.

How he offers mercy and loving kindness to you.

And so as you ask him about these decisions, as you ask him which way you are to go, my encouragement for you is to ask him to show you how you can continue down that path you're on, in light of his steadfast love.

Sometimes when we're navigating unfamiliar circumstances and we're dealing with a lot of unknowns, it can prompt us to question God's love. It can cause us to worry that maybe he won't be steadfast in his loving kindness to us in this circumstance.

And so we're talking about this today because God's love does not fail. It is not temporary. God's love for you is steadfast, and you can walk in it as you seek him on which way to go, and as you walk out the instruction and the direction that he gives you.

Let’s talk with him about it.

God, you know this circumstance, and you know that I don't know yet which way to go. But I do know this, I want to walk in your faithfulness.

God, what does it look like for me to walk in your steadfast love as I navigate these circumstances?

Have a good talk.
