Question

God, as I enjoy your handiwork here, what's something that you want me to notice, or that you want to remind me of? What would you like to talk about?

Here's the episode transcript

Hey friends, it's Jen and welcome to another episode on Good God Talks. Today, we're giving our hearts a break, whether that's from heavy, heartbreaking things that you're walking through or simply from the busyness of day-to-day life. And today we're taking a minute to experience the beauty of God, which is on display in the beauty of nature.

I'm going to read for us Psalm 19:1 in a few different Bible translations. The first is from the Passion Translation. It says,

“God's splendor is a tale that is told, written in the stars. Space itself speaks his story through the marvels of the heavens. His truth is on tour in the starry vault of the sky, showing his skill in creation's craftsmanship.” (Psalm 19: 1 TPT)

I'll read it again in the New Living Translation.

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.” (Psalm 19:1 NLT)

And then finally, in the ESV version,

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1 ESV)

And in these few minutes today, we're just appreciating God's handiwork, his craftsmanship. Which is on display in our sky. There's a note in the Passion Translation version in my Bible app. And it says, “the heavens are continually rehearsing the glory of God.”

And so as you listen to this episode, as long as it's safe to do so, I encourage you, take a look outside, step outside, look out your window, and admire the handiwork of God, whether that's during the day and you see birds and clouds, or maybe it's at night where you can hopefully see some of the starry vault of the sky. And as we take this minute to enjoy God's creation, this gets to be a shared experience that we have with God.

And so here's a question I encourage you to ask him:

God, as I enjoy your handiwork here, what's something that you want me to notice, or that you want to remind me of? What would you like to talk about?

Now, if this feels silly or unnecessary or superfluous to the pain points that are going on in your life right now, that's kind of the point.

Don't feel like you can't talk with God about those things, bring those to him too. But sometimes we just need a break from all of the things that are heavy to find ourselves held by God's care. To experience the moments of daily joy or delight, to take notice of his glory or his handiwork.

And that's actually really significant, even though it doesn't have to be serious.

Have a good talk.

And if you've been encouraged by this content, please share it with a friend and help them grow in their conversational relationship with God too!
