Question

God, as I think about this thing, what's something else that's also true or honorable or just or pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, or praiseworthy that you want to draw my attention to?

Here's the episode transcript

Hey friends, it's Jen and welcome to an episode of Good God Talks. We're in this series, really bringing our heartbreak to God. And also in the same series, we're alternating episodes to give our hearts a break from the things that are heavy and painful and difficult. To have these sweet moments of rest, and refreshment, and enjoyment with the Lord too.

Today's episode is one of those break moments where we can take these few minutes to engage with God in a lighthearted, restful, enjoyable way.

I'm going to read for us a verse from Philippians 4:8-9. And today I'm reading in the ESV version. It says:

“Finally, brothers, (and I'll add and sisters), whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9)

Really in today's episode, we're practicing these things. I encourage you to pick one of these topics, something that is true or honorable, just or pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, worthy of praise, and spend a few minutes thinking on these things.

Maybe it's something you've noticed in the life of your family or in the actions of your children.

Maybe it's something that you see in nature or in the environment around you.

Maybe it's a quality of God that you're really grateful for and you want to especially think on, to meditate on today.

Don't feel pressure to think of something that necessarily has to hit each category. Just pick one.

Maybe it's even something that is true, where if it feels like there's been a lot of deception or falsehood or spin or lies that you're having to navigate in this season; what is something true that you can hold on to, that you can think on, that you could celebrate or be grateful for today?

And so as you pick this thing and you start thinking about it, I encourage you to take it one step further and talk with God about it. God wants to talk with you about these things too.

And here's the question you can ask him:

God, as I think about this thing, what's something else that's also true or honorable or just or pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, or praiseworthy that you want to draw my attention to?

Have a good talk.

And if you've been encouraged by this content, please share it with a friend and help them grow in their conversational relationship with God too!
